While most style gurus outright forbid novelty ties, a pair of cufflinks explicitly revealing a person’s beliefs, interests and/or favorite joke can work in all but the most conservative of organizations.

Humor, irony and even reverence are messages that can be delivered with cufflinks: For those who like video games or cartoons, high quality Mario Brothers or Mickey Mouse cufflinks are out there, and those in awe of the Great Helmsman can pick up cufflinks that re-use authentic memorabilia from the late 1960s. Wearing a suit coat with sleeves short enough to reveal cuff links can appear awkward and, somewhat ridiculously, tradition dictates that cufflinks should only be visible when the arm is bent upwards. Thus, cufflinks are said to be mainly for the pleasure of the wearer and for that briefest of moments when women can marvel at their beauty as they are being removed for the night.

Men who choose to wear only simple barrel cufflinks are missing out on so much fun.
